When the family eats breakfast Marcus's partner and friend Mike Lowrey arrives to join them. When Quincy asks his uncle Mike if he had a date last night Mike attempts to tell him and James about it but Theresa tells Mike not to tell her sons his sleazy sex stories. Mike points out that he only tells her husband his sleazy sex stories with Theresa telling him she doesn't want him to know about it either as it gives him ideas. Mike later receives a call from Captain Howard who orders Marcus and Mike to come down to the station as they have a bigger problem.
Later on after the deaths of Eddie Dominguez and Maxine Logan, Marcus calls an informant to look for Dominguez's file while also talking to Theresa on the other line while at the station. The informant ends up insulting Marcus telling him to go screw himself with Marcus hanging up on him and saying screw you to him. Theresa misinterprets this as Marcus insulting her too and asks him if he was talking to her. Marcus attempts to explain that it was just a cop term but Theresa takes it personal and hangs up on her husband.
Later when Marcus returns home Theresa refuses to look his way and angrily goes upstairs to their bedroom and shuts the door reminding Marcus that he doesn't have his wedding ring on. Marcus tries again to explain that he went undercover requiring that the ring be taken off but she refuses to talk to him and makes him sleep on the couch.
Later when Marcus and Mike are forced to switch lives in Julie Mott's presence. Marcus tells Theresa that he is going to Cleveland for another drug case leaving Mike to stay with her and the kids. This makes Theresa furious asking who will pick up the kids from school and daycare and saying that Mike can't do it. Mike attempts quell the argument but Marcus tells him to go downstairs and have a coke and settle down.
Marcus later attempts to call Theresa to check on her but hears on the other line of her saying to Mike "put it back put it back " To which he gets an angry look in his eyes thinking that Mike is making a sexual pass at his wife when in actuality Mike and Theresa were looking at the high school yearbook of Marcus with his afro.
Marcus goes to his house to spy on Mike and Theresa unaware that two of Fouchet's henchman have been ordered to spy on Marcus's house. Marcus while climbing to the widow of his and Theresa's bedroom causes an accident where the balcony collapses and he falls with the noise alerting Mike and Theresa. Mike goes to ambush the intruder and discovers that it is Marcus who accuses him of making a pass at Theresa with Mike denying it and two begin fighting with Fouchet's henchman spying on them until Sanchez and Ruiz catch them in the act and arrest them. Mike rebuffs Marcus for thinking he was trying to seduce his wife saying that nothing happened between them. Theresa asks if its clear and Mike while holding Marcus's head underwater to muffle him says that everything is fine. Marcus leaves after apologizing to Mike and clears up the misunderstanding.
Later James and Quincy are watching the news, where they see a subsequent report of the bridge chase that ended with Noah Trafficante's death and Marcus and Mike ordering the news helicopter to leave, which leaves them both in shock as they thought their father was in Cleveland after seeing him on TV. They call their mother in the room and she sees the report as well and realizes her husband lied to her. To this she stated to her son that his dad just wishes he was in Cleveland and leaves.
Theresa goes to Mike's apartment residence and ignores the doorman Chet before using the elevator to go up Mike's apartment. When Julie answers the door, Theresa stated she came to kill her husband and confirms Julie's suspicion that Marcus and Mike have been impersonating each other. Theresa then confronts Marcus and announces her intention of her separation from him, accuses him of cheating on her with Julie and says that he can keep the wedding ring cause he will be very happy living with Mike at his apartment and that he's no longer welcomed to her house. She stated that she saw through Marcus's lie after seeing him and Mike on the news. Julie grabs her bags and her dogs and begins to storm out the apartment with Mike chasing her down to explain himself. Marcus attempts to explain to his wife that he was not cheating on her, that he was forced to go undercover and that Julie is a material witness to a murder that he's been ordered to protect. Theresa thinking that Marcus is telling another lie attempts to storm out with Marcus explaining that he was being honest and his statement was real.
When the two enter the lobby with Theresa saying she doesn't care what he says, Fouchet and his henchman Ferguson and Casper who had arrived at Mike's apartment to kidnap Julie pull out their guns and Marcus protects his wife by grabbing her while she screams as they open fire and he pulls her back behind the elevator wall to dodge the bullets. Marcus pulls his gun out to fire back at the thugs and after a hail of gunfire, the thugs the kidnap Julie and escape. Marcus gives his backup gun to Theresa for her protection and tells her to go back upstairs to Mike's apartment and wait for him to return. Theresa takes the gun and reaffirms her love for Marcus before he leaves to help Mike in pursuit of Fouchet and his thugs to retrieve Julie.
Later after finishing the case and bringing down Fouchet, Marcus handcuff's Julie and Mike's hands together and decides to go home hoping for his quality time with his wife so he could reconcile with her for his actions.
